    11月10日-12日北京的观众将首次有机会欣赏到纯正的刀郎传统歌舞表演。刀郎是喀什地区麦盖提、巴楚、莎车的一种文化现象。刀郎人是维吾尔族的一个分支；刀郎舞称为刀郎赛乃姆，是一种礼俗性舞蹈，逢节日喜庆，人们都要跳刀郎舞；其音乐称为刀郎木卡姆；

参加演出的八位艺人大多年过六十，但极富激情，他们从5000公里以外的新疆麦盖提县不远万里来到北京，在798艺术区的南门空间剧场举行一次题为"刀郎之魂"的歌舞盛宴，献上蕴涵着刀郎人灵魂的刀郎木卡姆、刀郎民歌以及刀郎舞。而特邀嘉宾——哈萨克族音乐家、IZ乐队的灵魂人物马木尔将与刀郎艺人合作，共同创造当代的新疆传统-即兴音乐。

For the first time in Beijing, a public performance of Dolan music and dance will be given by village musician-dancers from Makit County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Coming from 5,000 kilometers away, eight Dolan musicians, mostly in their 60s, will bring an indigenous Dolan maxirap (or “party”) to South Gate Space in a performance titled “The Soul of Dolan.”

The Dolan musicians will not only treat the audience to Dolan muqam and Dolan folk songs, but also jam with guest musician Mamer (lead singer and multiple-instrumentalist of the Kazak folk group IZ) in an ground-breaking session that will explore the traditional-improvised music of Xinjiang.

Audiences are encouraged to join in the dancing in celebration of the culture of west China and the soul of Dolan.

吉米·比亚拉／打击乐 舞蹈 声乐
自从1993年，打击乐艺术家吉米·比亚拉就与多方位艺术家进行合作。
他曾经在Santa Clara 大学教授打击乐并作为北加周日本文化社中心的唐人街文化社区服务中心的驻地艺术家。现在吉米在台湾的Dream Community任教授。吉米毕业于古巴 Matanzas 大学的打击乐及舞蹈专业。在巴 西，他向Rio de Janeiro的 Mangueria桑巴舞学校同 Jorge Alabe 和Mestre Aunto大师学习；同时也向Salvador, Bahia的 Ile-Aye Afoxe舞蹈团体大师 Mester Marivaldo学习。
吉米获得1998年度 Downbeat杂志颁发的爵士录音与表演大奖。他是Search Five项目以及 SambAsia桑巴舞学校的艺术总监。

On October 28, Beijing's South Gate Theatre in the 798 Art District
will host international artist Jimmy Biala and samba group SambAsia Beijing in an evening of percussion music from Cuba and Brazil. Hailing from San Francisco, California, USA, Jimmy has performed traditional, contemporary and improvisational music and dance to critical acclaim. Biala will present traditional solo drum pieces, followed by SambAsia Beijing’s group performance of Bahia-style samba rythms. Come share in the energy of communal music-making.

Jimmy BIALA / Percussion, Dance, Voice
Percussionist Jimmy Biala has collaborated with multi-disciplinary artists
since 1993.   After a long residency at Santa Clara University's School of Performing Arts, the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California and the
San Francisco Chinatown Beacon Center，Jimmy now teaches Cuban and Brazilian percussion at the Dream Community in Taiwan. He is a graduate of Percussion and
Dance at the University of Matanzas in Matanzas, Cuba. He has also studied
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with Jorge Alabe and Mestre Aunto from the
Mangueria samba school and in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil with Mester Marivaldo
of the Ile-Aye Afoxe group. Jimmy is the recipient of a 1998 Downbeat
Magazine Jazz Recording and Performance award. He is the artistic director
of the Search Five projects and the SambAsia samba school of San Francisco and Beijing.

SambAsia Beijing/ Group Percussion, Voice

During the Dashanzi International Arts Festival 2005, an eclectic collection of curious and energetic people, including students, white-collar professionals and professional drummers, gathered at South Gate Space to learn the Brazilian samba drumming of Salvador Bahia with percussionist Jimmy Biala. This workshop gave everyone an equal opportunity to learn a truly peoples' music, where everyone plays an integral part the sum of which equals an infectious musical tradition. With the five-day workshop, the group learned the basic rhythm and dance of Bahia-style samba and paraded through the Dashanzi Art District gathering hundreds of spectators in tow, each of them dancing, singing, and shouting with musical joy. Since this first experience, SambAsia Beijing, Escuela de Samba en Beijing, was born, and aims to be a permanent fixture in Beijing's art scene as a performance ensemble that welcomes everyone and anyone, promoting community awareness through a shared musical experience.

一支来自云南边远山区脚踩泥土、手握锄把，却天赋能歌善舞的纯正民间艺人将以他们真实的服装道具、民族乐器，和不加雕琢的唱腔与原始自在的舞蹈演绎自己的劳作、祈祷以及原始祭献仪式，再创浓郁的神话——云南远古先人对精神的信仰。
 Playing a fascinating array of stringed instruments, flutes and drums, and performing stunning ritual dances are indigenous Yi and Wa artists from remote villages throughout Yunnan Province that form Yunnan Yuansheng Indigenous Music and Dance Studio. Their dances and music reflect the belief in spirits, rituals, prayers and offerings that emerged from attempts to understand the mysteries of the universe.

 South Africa Abavuki Xosa Art Group is a young folk dance band of African Xosa. The original meaning of Abavuki is “Wake up! Early birds!”.

 Abavuki Xosa Art Group was founded in the year 2001, and published their album later on. They are a band of African Xosa dance. They use the traditional African xylophone, percussion, and western brass instruments to play the traditional African tribal music, while performing a high level of African dance.

 They not only bring this unique style of African music and dance to Beijing, also bring the culture of African art, musical instruments, communicating with the music and art lovers.

★ Theatre in Motion and Thinking Hands/South Gate Space present “Some Notes Are”, a multimedia contemporary dance performance by Deep Blue (Norway/Japan/Belgium)

The main figure of the Deep Blue collective is Heine Røsdal Avdal, Norwegian dancer and choreographer. He studied dance at the Statens Balletthøgskole in Norway and choreography in the prestigious P.A.R.T.S. institute in Brussels. He has performed all over the world with Damaged Goods, Meg Stuart’s (US) contemporary dance company that he joined in 1997. From 2000 on, he creates his own work. In 2003 Avdal sets up the Deep Blue collective with dancer Yukiko Shinozaki (also ex-Meg Stuart) and sound artist Christophe De Boeck.

“Some Notes Are”  is the result of a three weeks residency in Bejing. The starting point for “Some Notes Are” is the interest in how to transfer the “Box with holes” experience (Interractive Video Installation at Thinking Hands / June 22-25) from an installative setting into a classic conventional theatre setting with a performer on stage and spectators sitting in audience seats. Some of the main questions involved are: How does an interface between spectator and performer come into being? How does perception occur in a classical conventional theatre space and setting? How to manipulate this perception?

★ Les trois oranges (the three oranges) - Les Diablogues

This play is the result of two and a half years of work by the Three Oranges Theatre Company. The playright is French, Roland Dubillard. He wrote a series of playlets, originally for the radio, called the Diablogues. In French, "diable" means devil, then you hear "dialogues". As Faust puts it, when one mentions the devil then it appears...

The actors are bringing to life things that do not exist. What is important is not what you see on stage, but the space, universe, characters and ideas that are created from the words.

This play is a combination of these playlets, linked together as variations on a common theme. The two same characters will be performed by different actors, revealing various parts of their personality and existence.

They are deepened by a strong sound environment. Objects may not have a soul, but they can produce sounds. The director also prepared a fine selection of works by Bach and Beethoven to guide the performance on a continuous track.

There was also a significative research on space... how can two actors on stage, with minimalistic setting, can suggest an infinite, moving, or congested space?

The texts have been not only translated but also adapted completely to the Chinese language and culture. Each act of the Diablogues was written in Chinese by the director, in cooperation with the actors performing this particular act.

★ Jon Jang, Solo Piano - Two Flowers on a Stem

Jon Jang (composer, pianist) was accepted at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at the age of 21 where he received a B.Mus degree in piano performance in 1978 three years later. Since then, Jang has followed his own path of creating music which has become "two flowers on a stem," a metaphor expressing the symbiotic relationship of his cultural identity as a Chinese American as well as his musical philosophy of honoring tradition and encouraging innovation. As a pianist and artistic director of ensembles, Jon Jang has received  different commissions, grants and fellowship's His ensembles have toured at major concert halls and music festivals in China, South Africa (1994), Europe, Canada and the United States.

■ 5月4日，《精神的合流》韩国舞蹈。

韩国舞蹈家、声乐家、打击乐家李桃禧2005年在北京的首次演出《请灵》展现了韩国祈神舞、打击乐和声音，并赢得了现场所有的观众。2006年她将再次来到北京，在艺术节上带来融合了Butoh（日本的一种产生于二战后的前卫表演艺术）、祈神舞、即兴和传统民歌的作品，以表现她对北京的印象。

■     5月5日，罗约·哈迪根血鼓精神—世界爵士!

   罗约·哈迪根的乐队演奏景点及新创作的爵士乐。他们乐队的特点是在爵士乐中加入各种世界音乐的因素，如印度的吟诵节奏、印尼的佳美兰乐队的音乐结构、菲律宾的库林堂乐队的乐器和音色，北美印第安人的歌曲，西非的鼓节奏和歌曲、美国黑人的击掌戏等等。音乐表现的是非裔美国人的精神和灵魂，以及世界人民的音乐传统。

The combined apocalypse of Chinese classic drama and Xiong Shiyi’s English manuscript ‘Lady Precious Stream’, have together influenced the post-post modern drama Cool Cave. Through dance, drama, words, music and other elements, this piece presents the experience of Wang Baochuan, who lived in a cave for 18 years. Cleverly making illusionary comparisions between the Chinese and English languages, it extends to explore the secrets of the human personality. By analysing the experience of Wang Baochuan, we can observe the prediction and adjustment of human development and the potential for human intelligence to develop.

■ May 4^th <Confluence of Spirits> Korean dance

Korean dancer/vocalist/percussionist Dohee Lee won over audiences last year at her Beijing debut “A Call to Spirits” featuring Korean shamanistic dance, percussion and voice. She will return to Beijing in a project called Confluence of Spirits where she will mix Butoh and shamanistic dance, improvisation and traditional folk songs that reflect upon her impressions of Beijing.

Blood Drum Spirit is an effort to adapt the deep structures of Asian, African, and Native American traditions into the African American sound, a life force creating a space for the gods to descend, a positive alternative for what we see as a corrupt and parasitic status quo on plantation earth. He has researched, performed, and recorded with master artists from China, Philippines, India, Indonesia, the Caribbean, West Africa, African America, Ireland, and Native America; most importantly, he has lived these musical traditions and through their wisdom, come a little closer to what lies behind the music.

Second-hand Roses’ lead singer Liang Long, has inherited the spirit and practice of China’s Four Great Dan Actors (Si Da Ming Dan): dressing, being made up and acting in the role of a female. Second Hand Roses’ contemporaries describe them as:“Chinese drama finally finding the contemporary way”.
